I have  always taught my children that they bear the names of Christ and of their family, and how important that heritage is. Everything we do reflects well or poorly on the name of Christ, and on our family name.  Although the Murches have a rich heritage as a sept of the Scottish Clan Buchanan, I have wanted a unique crest for our Christian family: a family of preachers and activists.

The crimson signifies the blood of Christ;

The inscription is Ezekiel 3:17
"Son of man, I have made thee a watchman"

The sword signifies the Word of God;
The shield of faith is in the upper left quadrant;
The trumpets are the tools of a watchman, per Ezekiel 33:

2  Son of man, speak to the children of thy people, and say unto them, When I bring the sword upon a land, if the people of the land take a man of their coasts, and set him for their watchman:
3  If when he seeth the sword come upon the land, he blow the trumpet, and warn the people;
4  Then whosoever heareth the sound of the trumpet, and taketh not warning; if the sword come, and take him away, his blood shall be upon his own head.

The trumpet also signifies the Voice of the Preacher, as in Isaiah 58:1:
Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and shew my people their transgression.

The trumpet was also used to call forth the troops to battle; to praise God during the Feast Days; and to get the peoples' attention to bring the Word of the LORD.

With this Family Crest I hope to inspire generations of my seed after me to honor Christ, to be bold and outspoken in the Name of the LORD, to call people to battle, to Preach Righteousness in the gates; to wield the Sword of the Word, to defend with the Shield of Faith.
Grant it, O LORD.
